While his SummerSlam '91 match against Mr. Perfect is the bout which put Bret Hart on the map as a singles act, the Hitman's tangle with 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper at WrestleMania VIII is a contest that indicated the then-WWF truly had big things in mind for Hart.

That 1992 iteration of the company's Showcase of the Immortals had Bret trying to win back the Intercontinental Title that he never got to rematch for. Having toppled Perfect to become IC Champ at SummerSlam, Hart lost his prize to The Mountie on a house show prior to the '92 Royal Rumble. Kayfabe dealing with an extreme flu, the Excellence of Execution was picked off by the nefarious Jacques Rougeau.

Once the Rumble PPV rolled around, the Rowdy One stepped up to challenge - and beat - The Mountie for the Intercontinental Title. And thus, Piper vs. Hart was set for WrestleMania VIII.

A brilliant back and forth bout which told a phenomenal story, Bret would emerge victorious at 'Mania by reversing Roddy's sleeper hold into a pinning combination.

Prior to that finish, there's a moment where you can hear Piper call out "bulldog" to his rival. Seconds later, a bloodied Hart indeed took a bulldog from his long-time friend.
