WWF hype wasn't even close to peaking by the time WrestleMania II rolled around. Fans tripped over one another to see Hulk Hogan defend the top prize inside a steel cage vs. King Kong Bundy, and people were frothing at the mouth when the company revealed that this has never happened before.

That was a lie.

OK, so technically Hogan had never defended the WWF Title inside a cage vs. Bundy, but that wasn't the claim. Instead, the promotion's announcers bragged that 'Mania II would be the first title defence inside a cage ever. Older fans who had been there before Vince McMahon Jr's boom must've been scratching their heads.

After all, Bob Backlund had defended the belt against Jimmy Snuka inside the steel back in 1982, and that match even aired on TV via the MSG Network. It wasn't even an isolated occasion for Bob - weeks earlier, he'd successfully retained vs. Superstar Billy Graham inside the same imposing structure.
