10 Secret Wrestling Retcons You DEFINITELY Don't Remember

3. “First Time Ever” ‘Mania Match

WWE were pretty sneaky in 2011.

They tried hard to avoid calling an upcoming Triple H vs. The Undertaker match at WrestleMania XXVII their "first ever" encounter, because that would've been ridiculous. Sadly, that didn't last for long, and the hype train pulled out of the station quick enough to claim that 'Taker and Trips had never squared off on the biggest show of the year before.

Obviously, this was utter nonsense. Hunter and 'The Deadman' worked an underrated scorcher on the cherished 'Mania X-Seven undercard - it's been lost beneath the more iconic Steve Austin vs. The Rock and TLC II matches, but it definitely happened and people loved it back in 2001. So, it was odd to see WWE thumb their noses at the bout 10 years later.

This has been downplayed in more recent years. Any nods towards what 'Taker and Triple H achieved on back to back shows in 2011 and 2012 (the beloved Hell In A Cell epic) have included nods towards X-Seven as well. That wasn't the case when the "original" was hyped in 2011 though.
