10 Shocking AEW Plans You Won't Believe Almost Happened

1. CM Punk & The Elite In Blood & Guts!

Common sense dictates that this was a terrible idea from the off.

CM Punk reportedly pitched to be the fifth member of Blackpool Combat Club vs. The Golden Elite at Blood & Guts 2023. That, and you've spotted the potential nightmare for Tony Khan here already, would’ve meant Punk was in-ring working pressure spots with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks. Yikes!

The Elite had a dramatic backstage altercation with Punk after hearing what he had to say during the post-All Out 2022 press conference. Fallout from that was hellish for Tony and AEW, so it's just as well he had BCC pick Konosuke Takeshita and PAC as honorary members for the WarGames wannabe match instead.

Could Punk, Omega and The Jacksons have been trusted to do business when there'd been so much bad blood between them? Again, common sense says no chance. That could've got ugly in a hurry, 'cause things were already fraught without putting backstage beef and legal troubles in front of the cameras.

Disaster averted.
