10 Shocking AEW Plans You Won't Believe Almost Happened
2. Goldberg Becoming #AllElite
Bill Goldberg wrestling for AEW sounds like a poor fit on paper.
The squash match artist lapped up the highs and lows of a WWE reprise between 2016-2022, but the best of those bouts were snappy and to the point. The worst saw him chew up and spit out workers like Kevin Owens and Bray Wyatt, or almost brain himself vs. The Undertaker. Would he have worked out as #AllElite? Hmm.
It's an arguable point, but Bill himself decided it wasn't for him in the end. He's called AEW "too cheesy" in the press, and explained that he doesn't like a few aspects of the wider product overall. Fair enough, but it's doubtful that All Elite's most hardcore fans would pick Goldberg as TK's next big signing.
The fact this came close to happening is astonishing. Goldberg's star power and recent WWE renaissance surely captured Khan's imagination, but seeing Bill hammer some AEW workers on pay-per-view would've been rather strange. It'd fly in the face of the epic, New Japan-meets-vintage ROH style customers buying those shows expect.
