For all of the unquestionable joy and brilliance the world of wrestling can offer up on its best day, the business still has an unfortunate habit of throwing out the odd frightening scare that leaves your heart well and truly in your mouth... and not in a good way.

While the following disturbing incidents that either went down inside of the squared-circle or out of it all thankfully didn't lead to an entirely tragic ending, that's not to say that they didn't come equipped with some real-life details that will probably leave you shaken to the core.

It's not hyperbole to class many of these occurrences as some of the hardest things wrestling fans have ever had to witness or even just read about. And the stories that make up this list only further hammer home just how serious the famous wrestling scares in question actually were in the moment.

Whether it's the distressing truth behind why a wrestling legend was absent from the business for a spell, what actually happened during a particularly uncomfortable encounter, or just how close a star came to meeting their maker, each and every one of these stories make the following wrestling scares that little more shocking to behold.

10. Chris Jericho Could Barely Walk And Was Put On Oxygen During His Recent Blood Clot Scare

Chris Jericho soon became the talk of the wrestling town the minute he strutted out onto AEW Dynamite sporting a brand new set of abdominal muscles earlier this year.

But they actually came about after a very real medical scare.

Back in late 2021, Jericho found himself "gasping for breath" during a Fozzy show in Newcastle. And after it was revealed that the former AEW World Champion had blood clots, the star soon began to find it increasingly difficult to walk. In fact, just getting from his car to the hospital was a frightening struggle.

An eventual CT scan would then reveal that his lungs were actually filled with said clots, with Jericho being diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism. And despite being put on blood thinners, his oxygen level continued to decrease to the point where he was put on oxygen in the hospital.

After finally being released from hospital and flying home to the US, the veteran was informed that he needed to lose weight after further tests, with his visceral fat levels being too high. And before Jericho knew it, he'd dropped a staggering 31lbs in just eight weeks thanks to his new diet!

Fans had no idea this was the shocking reason Jericho was reportedly hospitalised in the UK around the time. And had Jericho not got himself checked out at the point he did, who knows how serious things could've gotten for the wrestling icon.
