10 Shocking WCW Plans That Almost Happened

8. A WCW/KISS Crossover PPV

WCW famously had its own Kiss Demon character in addition to appearances made by actual face-painted rockers KISS, but World Championship Wrestling at one point had plans to take the company's relationship with KISS to a whole other level.

1999 was a pivotal year in WCW's ultimate downfall. The prior years of opting against putting fresh faces - Goldberg aside - in the main event picture meant that the top of WCW's card was stagnant, and the turning of the Monday Night Wars tide in favour of the then-WWF meant that Ted Turner's promotion was throwing plentiful sh*t at the wall in the hope that something would stick.

One such out-there idea was for WCW to host a crossover PPV with KISS that would usher in the millennium. The plan was for 31 December 1999 to feature an event called New Year's Evil, which would be a three-hour show to welcome in the new year at Tempe, Arizona's Sun Devil Stadium.

With a 70,000 capacity crowd dreamed of, New Year's Evil would have seen KISS performing in one half of the stadium, while WCW put on a wrestling show in the other half - with the big match on the card being the KISS Demon battling Vampiro.

This plan was ultimately scrapped in September '99 when WCW management removed Eric Bischoff from his position of power.

Of course, more recently NXT has utilised that New Year's Evil name to start 2021 with a bang.
