10 Shocking WCW Vs WWE Moments That Almost Happened
8. Hulk Hogan Was Going To Join DX And Take On Stone Cold Steve Austin
In late 1997, the WWF made a bid to sign WCW's Hulk Hogan. The plan was that he'd head up D Generation X, win the WWF Title, then put Stone Cold Steve Austin over. This was confirmed by Bruce Prichard on Chris Jericho's podcast and later reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The idea was fascinating. Hogan as the leader of DX would have been huge against Stone Cold Steve Austin. But it could also have hurt the WWF, as there's little doubt that Hogan's politics in turn would have held Austin (and Triple H etc) back. In retrospect, Vince McMahon is probably glad the deal never got done. Hogan undoubtedly did want to do business with the WWF when he saw the momentum shifting. He also wanted to maximise his earnings. The idea of playing WCW and WWF against each other isn't surprising.
