10 Shocking Winners Of Wrestling Observer Awards
8. The Undertaker - Most Overrated 2001
Between his "retirement" at WrestleMania 33 and his "retirement" at Survivor Series 2020, The Undertaker was not viewed very fondly a majority of the time. His ageing body prevented him from having the barn-burners fans expected and his desperation to have "one last classic" drove him to accept disastrous matches with the likes of DX and Goldberg.
This is not the first time The Deadman has been viewed negatively by the WWE universe. Taker went through a radical shift in character following his 2000 return as the American Badass. Gone were the flowing black robes and satanic imagery of The Lord of Darkness and in came bandannas, chewing tobacco, and motorcycles. Honestly not sure which is more terrifying.
Fans noticed that, with this new character, the quality of Undertaker's matches began to dip. This might explain why Taker was voted the Most Overrated wrestler in 2001 - an award previously won by Bob Backlund, Sid Vicious, and Hulk Hogan seven times.
This fan resentment wouldn't last, but for those who only know The Undertaker as a beloved legend, this award may come as a shock to the system.
