10 Shocking WWE Angles That Crossed The Line
6. Eddie-sploitation
Eddie Guerrero's death in November 2005 was one of the most shocking moments in WWE history. A beloved superstar the world over, his sudden departure at the height of his popularity hit the wrestling world hard.
The tribute shows that followed gave 'Latino Heat' the global send-off he deserved. However, the continuation of Eddie-focused storylines in the months after were far less classy and, at times, were downright tasteless.
In the absence of Eddie himself as the face of the Latino market, WWE channeled their energy into the next best thing, Rey Mysterio. Rey became WWE's surrogate Eddie to provide fans still mourning Guerrero with someone to cheer for. Consequently, Mysterio won the Royal Rumble just two months after Eddie's passing.
While Mysterio push can be viewed as a tribute to Eddie, there's simply no excuse for the way they used Guerrero to further the Mysterio/Randy Orton feud that followed. On the 3 February 2006 episode of SmackDown, Orton told Rey that "Eddie ain’t in heaven. Eddie’s down there – in hell”.
If that wasn't bad enough, WWE tried to top it months later when, in a confrontation with Chavo Guerrero, Mark Henry stated “I spit on the Guerrero name" and even saying, "If your Uncle Eddie were alive, I’d spit on him too”.
It doesn't get much lower than that.
