10 Shocking WWE Betrayals

4. Stephanie McMahon Betrays Her Father - Armageddon 1999

In the fall of 1999, Vince McMahon and Triple H were embroiled in a heated rivalry that turned personal rather quickly. McMahon did everything in his power to keep The Game from reigning over WWE as its heavyweight champion, going as far as to defeat him for the title in a memorable SmackDown moment. As every week passed, the two egocentric men made each other's life a living hell. It culminated in November, when Triple H revealed to the world that he had secretly married McMahon's daughter Stephanie while the beautiful young woman was intoxicated and passed out in the passenger's side of his vehicle. The revelation sent the boss over the edge and resulted in a huge main event match between the rivals being booked for December's Armageddon pay-per-view. A win for McMahon would have resulted in the annulment of The Game's marriage to his daughter so it was only natural that Stephanie would be seated at ringside to watch as her father fought for her honor. Right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EtJVdPrCMI As it turned out, she had ulterior motives for being so close to the action. She hopped in the ring late in the match and begged her father to let her hit Triple H with his trademark sledgehammer. Ever the innocent young woman, she could not bring herself to do it. The distraction gave Triple H enough time to recover, use the sledgehammer on Vince and win the match. It was then that the master plan was revealed as Stephanie walked across the ring and embraced her husband, to a surprisingly mixed response. Together, the most powerful couple in WWE would reign over WWE for years to come. Both on screen and off.
