10 Shocking WWE Betrayals

5. Randy Savage Betrays Hulk Hogan - Saturday Night's Main Event 1989

Jealousy and envy are the root of many betrayals and that was no different in 1989, when then-WWE champion Randy Savage assaulted Hulk Hogan and effectively brought an end to the Mega Powers team that had taken professional wrestling by storm. It was jealousy in regards to Hogan's friendship with Elizabeth, not to mention the fact that the Hulkster was still a bigger star than the Macho Man, despite the latter holding the heavyweight title. Those two elements boiled over, leading to one of the best angles in WWE history. Miss Elizabeth was accidentally taken out by Savage, who flew over the top rope and nearly crushed his valet. Hogan carried the beautiful young woman to the locker room area, thus leaving his partner to battle the colossal Big Boss Man and Akeem by himself. Savage was understandably irate and responded by slapping Hogan when the Hulkster returned to the squared circle. Like Hogan did to him, he walked out, leaving the icon to compete alone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuZs6qCbFrM After the match, an argument between the friends in front of Elizabeth ended when Savage blasted Hogan with the WWE title, leaving him lying in a heap in the trainer's room. It was a defining moment for WWE and one of the greatest segments ever produced on Saturday Night's Main Event. It led to the epic match between Hogan and Savage at WrestleMania V, a show very much defined by their titanic clash.
