Had the Chris Benoit tragedy not happened in June 2007, one of the most daring wrestling storylines was planned to unfold for the duration of a year. When Mr McMahon was seemingly 'blown up' and killed in his limousine, the question of "Who killed Mr McMahon?" was to be left unanswered for months.

The plan was for an investigation to slowly uncover evidence that proved that Mr McMahon's murderer was in fact Linda McMahon, who would subsequently be arrested after her husband's video will was discovered and played during an edition of Monday Night RAW. During this segment Mr McMahon would leave the entire WWE in the hands of his illegitimate son, Mr Kennedy.

Mr Kennedy was then to become the number one heel and would use his executive powers to place himself in the WWE and World Heavyweight Title pictures. Meanwhile, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon were planned to reveal their kayfabe second consensual marriage that would allow Triple H to challenge Kennedy for ownership of the WWE.

A feud between Triple H and Kennedy was scheduled to play out until WrestleMania, culminating in a main event match that was to be won by Hunter. He would then be considered as the undisputed owner of WWE, at which point Mr McMahon was to return and reveal he had faked his own death and planted evidence to incriminate his wife for his murder so that he could give WWE to his 'true son.'

The Benoit tragedy forced WWE to abandon these plans when the COO of the company had to break kayfabe and address fans on WWE programming. Besides, it would be in very poor taste to run a murder storyline after the real-life horrific events that had taken place.
