10 Shocking WWE Plans You Won't Believe Almost Happened

8. The Unprecedented Plan For Hogan/HBK

At the 2005 edition of SummerSlam an unprecedented match took place between Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels. The entire four-week build for what was billed as 'The Dream Match' is best remembered for the conspicuous absence of Hogan, as Michaels had to promote the match singlehandedly as a heel similar from his Attitude Era DX days at the request of Hogan himself.

While this proved to be entertaining, it highlights the fluctuating backstage plans of the WWE and the weakness of bookers in succumbing to Hogan's 'backstage politics.' After all, Hogan was actively dictating not only the conditions of the build-up to the match but had the original plan for a Michaels victory changed so that a heel Michaels would put him over as the baby face winner.

According to both Michaels and Hogan, the WWEs original plan was for them to wrestle a total of three matches with the last match being a deciding rubber match to ascertain who was the better wrestler. These creative differences and changing plans led to an infuriated Michaels overselling Hogan's offense during their SummerSlam match and basically refusing to work with 'egomaniac' Hogan again.
