10 Shocking WWE Plans You Won't Believe Almost Happened

9. The Ground-Breaking Plan For Chyna

Few would argue that Chyna is one of the most dominant female athletes in WWE history. Her intense physicality all but decimated the female roster with frightening ease, so much so that the WWE Creative Team were keen to challenge gender prejudice by having Chyna wrestle and defeat male talent.

Her feuds with Jeff Jarrett and Chris Jericho, along with her pioneering reign as Intercontinental Champion, stand as times that WWE weren't afraid to take calculated risks. Its biggest risk in relation to Chyna was actually set to take place before her IC run.

Amazingly there were originally plans at SummerSlam 1999 for Chyna to be the first female wrestler to win the coveted WWE Championship. In the build-up to the event she became the Number. 1 contender, and it looked like Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Chyna was set to close the WWE's third biggest PPV of the year.

Despite her push in 1999, it would seem that the WWE bookers became increasingly less keen on the idea and it was (thankfully) decided that Chyna was not the right choice to carry the WWE Championship convincingly. Still, had Vince Russo had his way, Chyna would be in the record books as the only ever female WWE Champion.

Progressive booking, shock TV or just typical Russo madness? Either way, it never happened and Chyna had to settle for the IC Title, instead.
