Finn Balor's forced vacation of the Universal Title just one night after winning it stunk, but credit to WWE for devising a memorable angle to crown the next champion.

A two-night tournament was devised the following night on Raw. Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, Roman Reigns, and Big Cass all won contendership qualifiers, and with their victories, the right to fight for the big red belt in a four-way the next week. It was an exciting, action-packed scrap. Cass was eliminated first, eating a Superkick from Rollins and a KO Frog Splash, and it looked like the bout would reach a clean conclusion... until Triple H happened.

The big man leaped the barricade, Pedigree'd his former Rival, Roman Reigns, and threw a dazed Seth back in the ring, gifting him the pinfall. It looked very much like 'The Game' was handing his protégé the belt, but there was a twist. Instead of attacking Owens, Triple H set his crosshairs on 'The Architect,' delivering an Earth-shattering Pedigree to allow a stunned KO to take the gold, and kick off a memorable feud that would take Hunter and Seth all the way to WrestleMania.
