Hey, remember when Jerry Lawler randomly alleged that Humberto Carrillo was WWE's own version of Justin Bieber on commentary? That was never going to endear the Mexican flyer to fans. Being fair to Lawler though, those same folks were barely interested in what Carrillo was selling anyway.

This was creative bashing their heads against ye olde brick wall for sure.

Humberto bounded onto the main roster in late-2019, and he was immediately programmed against top stars like Seth Rollins and AJ Styles. Both of them were instructed to hype Carrillo up as something special, but he...had the same amount of charisma as your average dish drying rack.

Although a later feud opposite Andrade did show signs of improvement, WWE viewers had long-since made their minds up about this forced push. Announcers could wax lyrical about how impressive Carrillo was all they wanted - fans didn't see it, so WWE's writers quickly dumped him on the failure pile and moved focus elsewhere.
