10 Shortest WWE Championship Reigns
1. Andre The Giant: 1 Minute, 48 Seconds
If you thought short title reigns were a recent occurence, think again, as the award for the shortest ever WWE championship reign actually goes to Andre the Giant all the way back in 1988.
In the highly anticipated NBC’s ‘The Main Event’ rematch to their famous WrestleMania III main event, Hogan faced off with Andre again on February 5, 1988. In shocking circumstances, it was Andre who brought an end to Hogan's four year run as WWE champion.
Proving that 'everyone has a price,' The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase concocted a master plan to get his hands on the WWE championship. After Hogan turned down DiBiase's big cash offer for the belt, The Million Dollar Man instead pulled off a convoluted scheme for Andre to win using Earl Hebner to sub in as referee for his twin brother Dave and count a pinfall, even though Hogan clearly kicked out at one.
The evil plan didn't end there. After the match, Andre immediately handed the belt over to DiBiase, revealing that The Million Dollar Man had 'bought' the title from him. Unfortunately for DiBiase, WWE President Jack Tunney refused to recognise this as an official title change and the belt was instead declared vacant.
In one convoluted segment, Andre the Giant became the shortest WWE champion in history - and you thought modern WWE was overbooked!
