How much does a great professional wrestling match matter?

The cult-like devotion to and arena-sized emergence of NXT, NJPW and AEW indicates that it very much does, but Lana and Bobby Lashley have drawn more eyes to their fake unfunny wedding than some of the most blistering wars fought on television in years and years.

It matters to an extent, and it certainly matters at WrestleMania. Great matches double as moments of ascendency. Great matches, like those the Undertaker unleashed in his streak-within-the-Streak, elevated and made commercially viable 'Mania's latter, stadium-sized aura.

Nothing on the rumoured WrestleMania 36 card has proper banger potential.

Drew McIntyre Vs. Brock Lesnar might be an electric, stiff-as-f*ck hoss fight, but elsewhere, we're looking at a slew of methodical melodramas that will feel even slower against the backdrop of that draining seven-hour runtime. The card doesn't highlight the most capable and dynamic of workers in the WWE system, but rather creaking Legends and the power-based big lads. There's not a single Match Of The Year Candidate, which isn't ideal.

WWE has built engrossing stories ahead of WrestleMania 36, which ultimately matters more, but...
