10 Signs WWE’s Women’s Revolution Is Dead
9. A Lack of WrestleMania Focus
So far, WrestleMania 38 has three matches announced for the company's women; a Raw Women’s Title match, a SmackDown Women’s Title match, and a three-way for the tag titles.
Meanwhile, if you thought for a moment putting both top titles in the same match would leave things short on the men's side you’d be sorely mistaken. There are also two celebrity bouts announced, a near guaranteed banger from Edge and AJ Styles, and there’s even room for superfluous fluff like Drew McIntyre versus Baron Corbin.
Plus, rumours to continue to swirl about Cody Rhodes returning to face Seth Rollins, and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin agreeing to more than an interview. So where are the women’s grudge matches, celebrity cameos and high profile returns?
Women headlining “The Show of Shows” represents genuine progress, particularly WrestleMania 36, the final single night ‘Mania meaning WWE couldn’t have it both ways. That main event was the revolution’s high water mark, with Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair and Rhonda Rousey acknowledged as the biggest stars and draws in the entire company. Sadly however, women remained a secondary concern on the undercard.
The parity suggested by women main eventing has never been borne out by the rest of the show. The only other women’s match on the main card that year was a multi-team tag match. Last year they repeated the trick, cramming for women into a “tag-team turmoil” match. It all feels a bit obligatory.
