10 Smart Ideas Nobody Gives TNA Credit For

9. Rockstar Spud's Underdog Story

It's hard to imagine a performer like Rockstar Spud making any headway in WWE. The Englishman's diminutive size is offset by his fiery attitude and ability with the microphone, but he's exactly the kind of wrestler Vince McMahon wouldn't see as a potential star. That's a shame, because Spud has been a highlight of TNA programming for close to 2 years now. The way his underdog story played out was tremendous fun. Initially standing behind the likes of Dixie Carter, Magnus and EC3, Spud evolved into a wrestler fans could relate to. Obviously, his smaller stature helped with this, but his performances on the microphone opposite Ethan Carter were excellent. Fans badly wanted to see Spud put his larger opponent on ice, and a 'Hair vs. Hair' scenario was booked earlier this year. Carter would come out on top in the bout, but it was the build that made this rivalry memorable. Since then, Spud hasn't done too much of note, whereas EC3 has went on to become TNA Heavyweight Champion. It's a sign of how valued Spud is that he was used to push EC3, and the way in which he was humanised and made believable by writers deserves credit.
