10 Songs About Wrestling You Need To Hear

4. The Wrestler - Bruce Springsteen

The Boss penned this tune for the 2008 Darren Aronofsky film of the same name. The movie starred Mickey Rourke as aging pro-wrestler Randy “The Ram” Robinson. “The Ram” achieved prominence in the 1980s, but now he is working part-time at a grocery store and wrestling on the weekends, longing to relive the glory days.

Springsteen always had the knack for expressing the plight of the common man. With “The Wrestler” he well chronicles the struggles of a broken man who is still trying to cling to past glories. Lyrics such as “bet I can make you smile when the blood, it hits the floor” aptly describes how “The Ram” was willing to sacrifice his body for the fleeting adulation of the crowd.

The song was notably snubbed at the Oscars, but Rourke was nominated for best actor.

Previously part of the music project Face and the No Credits. It was really terrible. Hopefully less terrible is my writings about music, wrestling and other subjects. Respect the luchador mask and $5 poncho!
