10 Strange WWE Gimmick Matches

4. Inferno Match

When you talk about strange, unique gimmick matches, you’ve got to talk about bouts where the object was to light your opponent on fire.

WWE has only had four Inferno matches in its history, and likely won’t again, not unless the company undergoes a major change. Somehow, lighting a person on fire is decidedly un-PG. But during the Attitude Era, it was just another impressive gimmick match, and one that perfectly fit Kane.

The “hellfire and brimstone” demon has competed in all four Inferno matches, three of which took place in 1998-99, with the last occurring in 2006. Despite it being his gimmick match, Kane has lost three of those bouts.

Kane also fought Bray Wyatt in a Ring of Fire match in 2013, but the object of that match wasn’t to light your opponent on fire. Rather, the fire was designed to keep the Wyatt Family outside the ring (which of course did not work).
