10 Strangest Articles That Ever Appeared In WWE Magazine
4. Goldust’s Golden Photo Shoot
Usually at the centrefolds of WWF/E magazines were risqué and glamorous pictures of Divas. Sex sells after all. But the Raw March 1997 edition differed. Sure, it featured an alluring Marlena topless with her arms covering her breasts, but right behind her just as naked was (her real-life husband) ‘the bizarre one’ Goldust looking and posing exactly how you would expect.
They were both wearing thongs and covered/smothered in gold paint that played on Goldust’s obsession with films and the colour gold and the Oscars. It was bizarre and arthouse and eccentric, especially in the late ‘90s when his androgynous gimmick drew a lot of heat from fans, that actually suited the Goldust character perfectly with his sexually suggestive quirks in matches and promos.
The feature appealed much more to adult viewers of WWF programming and was a stark contrast from some of the other articles in the magazine, like Jose Lothario being hospitalized by Sycho Sid at Survivor Series and a deep dive into Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels long-standing rivalry.
It was just another highlight in the strange and storied career of Dustin Rhodes.
