Eddie Guerrero was the perfect choice for WWE's first United States Champion after they decided to bring the belt back in the summer of 03. He was entertaining, he was over and he was wrestling the matches of his life. Basically, he was the total package, and it was a joy watching him tear it up with Chris Benoit, Rhyno, Tajiri, Matt Hardy and others on a weekly basis. His successor, Big Show, was a man whose waistline was increasing at about the same rate that his talent was decreasing. He was a slow-moving, tired act who despite consistent main event feuds over the course of the year, still wasn't close to the level WWE had hoped he would be at. Maybe that's why WWE felt the need to put the US Title on him. Who knows? What I do know is that Big Show was a flop as champ, defending the belt on TV a grand total of two times before dropping it to John Cena at WrestleMania XX. It was a meaningless prop to Show, whereas Eddie actually made the title mean something. Okay, so perhaps Show wasn't as bad a champion as someone like Orlando Jordan, but he was a pretty damn useless one. It was a stupid decision on WWE's part to give him the belt, that much is true.
