10 Stupidest Decisions By WWE In 2004

3. The Lita Miscarriage Angle

It didn't work in 1999 and it was arguably more offensive in 2004, yet WWE went ahead and ran with an unsettling miscarriage angle anyway. The angle was part of the already strange Lita/Kane storyline (Kane was obsessed with Lita, 'won' the right to marry her by beating Lita's real-life boyfriend Matt Hardy and then impregnated her). After all of that nonsense, WWE scripted Lita to have a 'miscarriage' after Kane fell on top of her during a No DQ match with a debuting Gene Snitsky. As the picture above demonstrates, WWE tackled this veery serious subject, which effects many people around the world, with all the subtlety and respect you would imagine. This was quality television drama. This was a ratings ploy and a way to garner cheap heat for Snitsky, who only got the gig because he was tall and muscular - he was another developmental no-hoper before he received the call to appear on Raw. Presenting this angle was a big mistake for a number of reasons. Not only did it derail the careers of Lita and Kane, but it got WWE a lot of negative press attention, too. It's almost like after running with wrestling and logical storylines for the first half of the year, WWE got cold feet and decided crash TV and scantily clad women (the Diva Search) were the way to go. The Lita/Snitsky/Kane saga was a waste of perfectly good TV time.
