10 Stupidest Gimmick Changes In WWE History
3. Cody Rhodes To Stardust
You have to almost feel bad for Cody Rhodes. Despite being an extremely talented performer, he never really clicked with the audience despite being given a huge initial push as part of Randy Orton's Legacy stable.
He had a decent run as a heel on Smackdown and probably could have carved out a solid midcard career but Cody wanted something bigger and decided a drastic gimmick change was in order.
Cody began mimicking Goldust's mannerisms and rechristened himself as Stardust, a name used by his father in the AWA. He acted completely spaced out and spoke of a "cosmic key" that was never really explained, just constantly referenced.
As the gimmick changes, Cody went from being a Goldust imitator to a comic book villain. Cody is a real-life comic book nerd and wanted to bring a supervillain to WWE television complete with minions and a hero defeating him.
It was a cool concept but WWE's creative team just didn't get the character, consistently booking him in pointless feuds and having him job to actor Stephen Amell at Summerslam.
