5. Buried Alive Match - The Undertaker

The Undertaker has a whole host of gimmick matches based on him, and whilst I'll get on to another shortly, it is the Buried Alive match I'd like to look at first.

This is such a strange match concept, if we stand outside of the professional wrestling bubble. The way to win the match is the kick your opponent into an open grave situated by the entrance, and pour a load of earth on them, burying them alive. That must be one of the biggest fears of every individual, right? We've all had nightmares where we wake up in a grave with only worms and dirt for company.

The Undertaker doesn't have a great record in these matches. There have been five in total, and 'Taker's record stands at two wins and three losses, although there's more to it than that. He defeated Mankind in the very first Buried Alive match in October 1996, but as you can see in the picture above, Taker was the one to find himself in the grave at the end of the night.

Taker's losses have come against Stone Cold Steve Austin, Vince McMahon, and Kane, whilst his other win came in tag competition with Big Show against The Rock and Mick Foley.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
