2. Inferno Match - Kane

The character of Kane has always been closely linked to fire, and as a result it is unsurprising that the Big Red Monster has been involved in every single Inferno Match to take place in World Wrestling Entertainment. The Inferno Match is aesthetically fantastic, but in the modern age the likelihood of performers going up in flames is slim to none, as it should be.

The very first Inferno Match saw The Undertaker defeat his baby brother in 1998, before repeating that action on an episode of RAW a year later. 'Taker then burned Stephanie McMahon's childhood teddy bear, bringing a tear to the eye of the Chairman of the Board.

Kane has also lost to Triple H and Bray Wyatt in such matches, and his only victory to date saw the Devil's Favourite Demon get one over MVP in December 2006.

The way to win the Inferno Match was fairly simple; set your opponent on fire. Flames would surround the ring, rising to the sky whenever a bump was taken, and pretty much every match ended with someone's arm catching fire. The Wyatt/Kane match was different however, with the fire acting the same as a cage. Victory came via pinfall, the flames there to keep Bray's followers out.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
