Chris Jericho is no stranger to the WWE Intercontinental Championship. He's held it a record 9 times in his career, but his eighth Intercontinental title reign came by way of the WWE Wellness Policy.

In March 2008, Jeff Hardy was enjoying one of the biggest singles pushes of his career at that point. He was the Intercontinental Champion and a favorite to win the Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania XXIV. It was finally going to be Jeff Hardy's time to shine.

Then, a Wellness Policy violation changed everything. Hardy had to quickly drop his IC title to Jericho in a fairly unceremonious TV match and miss WrestleMania completely. Hardy's loss, however, was a big gain for Jericho, as the singles title helped reenergise the push he'd been receiving since his late 2007 return.
