Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas formed a great tag team in the early 2000s, but when the team was split up in the 2004 draft lottery, Benjamin became a star almost overnight - just days after Triple H headlined WrestleMania XX, Benjamin took him on in a singles match and scored an upset win that seemed to have cemented his status as the future of WWE. Benjamin would go on to defeat Ric Flair, and finally he would wrest the Intercontinental Championship from Chris Jericho.

Benjamin would surprisingly lose the belt to Carlito following an eight-month reign, and soon after, he began a losing streak. After being saddled with a ridiculously offensive gimmick involving his "mother," Benjamin turned heel. He would win the Intercontinental Title twice more during a time when he should have been defending the WWE Championship, and he was voted "Most Underrated" in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards in 2005, 2006, and 2007.

Benjamin continued to wow viewers with his performances - especially during Money in the Bank matches - but he was released in 2010. Since then, he's competed for New Japan and Ring of Honor and looked sett for a WWE return in 2016 before an unfortunate injury put his comeback on the shelf.
