10 Superstars WWE Completely Wasted

9. Drew McIntyre

WWE has typically earmarked wrestlers for main event success very early in their careers, and with a few exceptions (Jeff Hardy, Daniel Bryan), superstars rarely work their way up the card and change minds in the process. Drew McIntyre was one of the lucky few supposed to be a future star, and in late 2009, Vince McMahon himself declared the Scot a future World Champion on TV. He won the Intercontinental Title in short order, but McIntyre's reaction and talent didn't match his push, and following a loss in WrestleMania XXVI's Money in the Bank match (McIntyre was schedule to win, but plans were changed for disciplinary reasons), his good fortunes soon faded.

McIntyre floundered in 2011 and 2012, but he quietly improved to the point of becoming a very good worker. In 2012, he joined the Three Man Band comedy stable, and continued to show greatness despite his position on the card.

In 2014 he was released, and since then, he's dominated the independent wrestling scene - he quickly captured the Dragon Gate USA and Evolve Championships, and later at promotions like ICW and WCPW showed fans in America and Europe what WWE failed to recognize. So much so they re-signed him in 2017 and is now firmly being pushed as NXT's next top guy.
