10 Superstars Who WWE Made Suffer In 2014

1. Rey Mysterio

While many of the superstars WWE have made suffer this year have been very visible, sometimes to the point of airing the dirty laundry in public, many fans perhaps aren€™t aware of what Rey Mysterio has been through this year. Mysterio is undeniably a wrestling pioneer and an industry legend, but for most of 2014 he€™s been held hostage by WWE. The story goes that Rey was looking to leave when his contract ran out, but he€™s been so injured that they activated a clause that allowed them to renew it due him €œowing€ them dates. Former WCW star Konnan, who is now one of the higher ups in AAA, started the #FreeREY hashtag to try and inform the world of what€™s going on. After AAA€™s WrestleMania-equivalent, TripleMania a video was shown of Rey Mysterio congratulating the promotion on twenty-two years of success and he signed off by promising he would see them soon. The video ended with the #FreeREY hashtag, and solidified the rumours that Rey was desparate to leave WWE. Earlier in the year it was said to have gotten so bad that Rey Mysterio had stopped cashing WWE€™s cheques, but not it seems a compromise may have been reached. Recent rumblings suggest that WWE have offered Rey significantly more money to stay and that creative have been informed to start working on ideas for him. At this point, after the debacles with CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio, it may be easier for WWE to let Rey Mysterio go. He€™s a legend who deserves more respect than they€™ve shown him, and by letting him leave on his own terms they leave the door open to work together sometime down the road.
