10 Superstars WWE Tried To Push In 2017 (But Failed Miserably)
3. Baron Corbin
It's tough to say that a guy who held the United States Championship as well as the Money in the Bank briefcase in the same calendar year had a less-than-stellar 2017. That said, Baron Corbin is not the star today that he should be, thanks to WWE's mediocre handling of him.
Corbin failing to win the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 33, and his loss to Sami Zayn at Backlash, hardly mattered once he became Mr. Money In The Bank. It was what he did while in possession of that opportunistic briefcase that mattered most...which was absolutely nothing.
The Lone Wolf could have realistically won the WWE Championship, had he not have been booked to look so weak against the likes of Shinsuke Nakamura and John Cena. It was almost mind-boggling that the company still expected fans to take him seriously as U.S. champion even after he failed to cash in his contract successfully.
Worse yet, his U.S. title reign consisted of him losing to Sin Cara multiple times before dropping the strap in anticlimactic fashion at Clash of Champions. It would surprise no one if it was revealed that, much like Bayley, officials had given up on Corbin as well.
