The Championship Scramble concept which came to life at 2008’s Unforgiven PPV, was a uniquely convoluted mess in reality, despite having a ton of potential on paper.

Sure it was essentially an Elimination Chamber without eliminations or the dangerous steel structure, but if the Punjabi Prison match received multiple goes, then surely that is grounds for an eventual Championship Scramble reboot.

The WWE Championship Scramble particularly struggled to generate excitement in the build, and during the contest itself, predominantly due to the lack of star power. Granted, this entry could highlight midcard heels MVP and Shelton Benjamin who joined Jeff Hardy and champ Triple H, as the forgettable challenger in question. However, this would be doing a disservice to the sheer randomness of The Brain Kendrick as a WWE Championship contender in 2008.

Post his record-setting tag team title run with Paul London, Kendrick received a blink and you’ll miss push, complete with the always prestigious addition of ‘The’ in front of his name, and was saddled with Ezekiel Jackson as his bodyguard.

Nonetheless, Kendrick fought valiantly in the Scramble, even securing the title periodically after pinning Hardy mid-contest. However, he was a far cry from the respected industry veteran he is today, significantly out of place in a World Title fixture on PPV.
