In 2020, industry veteran and long-time goof ball R-Truth is a staple of the 24/7 Title division, a well-fit place for his comedy character. However, there was a time in 2011, albeit brief, when WWE attempted to transform him into a psychologically challenged main event heel.

Prior to the Summer of Punk angle, R-Truth too cried conspiracy against the WWE, predominantly targeting champion John Cena, the man he would challenge at the Capitol Punishment PPV. Of course, this was all part of a crazed heel turn which saw him harass fans in attendance, and even kayfabe injure John Morrison. His new heel persona was a complete 180 for Truth, who threw everything into this identity, ditching the dancing, and notably inventing ‘Little Jimmy’, his trademark imaginary sidekick.

Unfortunately despite his efforts, when it came time for the main event, no-one thought he had a hope of leaving Washington D.C. with the belt. The match, Truth’s first ever for the WWE Championship had very little buzz, and it showed in the arena.

The bout was enjoyable, featuring strong in-ring psychology, as Truth sought to control proceedings at his own vicious pace, dominating Cena until a small child at ringside threw water in his face. One AA later, and R-Truth’s quick dalliance in the main event scene quickly faded.
