Widely regarded as one of the greatest pro wrestlers of all time, Ric Flair's accomplishments as WWF Champion were actually rather meagre. He's much better remembered as the styling profiling champion of the NWA and WCW. What effectively ruined Flair's chances in the WWF was Hulk Hogan. Flair came on board in late 1991 and the clear money match was versus Hogan at WrestleMania for the WWF Title. But Hogan had no interest in doing business with a wrestler of Flair's superior calibre, especially as it would likely involve losing the belt to Flair at some stage. So instead, WWF had Flair win the vacant title in the 1992 Royal Rumble match. It was one of the few highlights of Flair's WWF tenure, as he went nearly sixty minutes to outlast the pack and take the gold. A WrestleMania bout with Randy Savage followed, but it ended up being the side show to Hogan's main event match with Sid Justice, which also featured an Ultimate Warrior run in. Having dropped the belt to Savage at Mania, Flair won it back in September of that year, before dropping it to Bret Hart at a house show in October. That match was described as horrible. For all of his fame and ability, Flair's WWF title runs meant nothing to the business. His whole WWF run was just a side note to his much grander NWA / WCW legacy.
