Big Daddy Cool Diesel had the look and the attitude, in addition to an often underrated big man ring style. But as WWF Champion from November 26 1994 until November 19 1995, he was a colossal failure. Once again, you could also say he was the victim of the cyclical nature of the business. Additionally, the WWF were reeling from the steroid trial and WCW's gains with the signing of Hulk Hogan. As a result, Diesel was a champion in a period in which most wrestlers would've struggled in his spot. His later successes in WCW (at least the 1996 - 1997 period) proved that he was capable of being a very top star. But WWF never got any sort of big business out of Diesel. Attendance and pay per view started to tank with him in the headline slot, but the WWF stuck the course with him because they really didn't have a lot of other options. With 1995 being one of the worst business years on record for Vince McMahon, Diesel is now remembered as one of the worst champions in WWF history. At the time his failure was a surprise, as Vince thought he was going to be one of the biggest stars ever.
