10 Surprising Origins Of Your Favourite Wrestling Moves

7. The Cutter: Johnny Ace

So, remember in 2011 when John Laurinaitis was all over Raw and SmackDown with his charisma-sucking personality and 40-a-day voice? The guy has received a lot of flack for some of his views (if the behind-the-scenes stories are to be believed) but there is no doubt that he's had some pretty good ideas as far as in-ring work goes.

You may be vaguely aware that Johnny Ace used to be something of a big time wrestler in Japan (the guy was a tag champ with Kenta Kobashi for God's sake), but did you know he invented the RKO?

During his run in Japan during the late '80s, Laurinaitis used the running bulldog variant to great success. On occasion he even did the toss-up-and-grab cutter (known by Laurinaitis as the Ace Crusher) version made so popular by Orton.

The move didn't receive quite the same fanfare as the Diamond Cutter or the RKO, but it's just as exciting to see in old clips as it is to watch live today. Fun fact: Laurinaitis also created the Famouser. He named it the Ace Crusher II. Great at move innovation, terrible at names.
