10 Surprising Reasons Movie Scenes Were Ruined

1. 10-15% Of The Movie Was Never Shot - The Snowman

2017's adaptation of Jo Nesbø's hit thriller novel The Snowman was an absolute mess, with many viewers and critics complaining that the film was a largely disjointed slog that built to an incomprehensible car crash of an ending.

The editing throughout the final sequence is incredibly choppy, and the speed at which the story bounces between characters and subplots in the third act suggests something went very, very wrong during production.

If you assumed that director Tomas Alfredson just hit a career slump, that's not entirely true - shortly after the film's release, Alfredson spoke openly about the chaotic shoot, whereby he was effectively forced to release the film unfinished.

According to Alfredson, pre-production was extremely rushed and shooting was curtailed enough that he was left unable to shoot 10-15% of the script. He said:

"Our shoot time in Norway was way too short, we didn't get the whole story with us and when we started cutting we discovered that a lot was missing. It's like when you're making a big jigsaw puzzle and a few pieces are missing so you don't see the whole picture."

Think of your favourite movies, and consider if 15% of it was missing - it might not ruin the entire film but it'd certainly ensure that select sequences, perhaps massively important ones, wouldn't really work.

While it's unlikely that The Snowman would've been a great movie had this extra chunk of material been filmed, it at least might've built to a more coherent and satisfying ending.
