10 Surprising Wrestlers Who've Done Deathmatches

3. Ric Flair

Ric Flair was 34 years deep into an iconic career when he bled buckets at SummerSlam 2006. The 'Nature Boy' didn't need to prove anything to anyone, but he and Mick Foley went hell-for-leather in a hardcore spectacle on the show. There was blood, there was barbed wire and there was misery.

Both guys probably loved every second.

This was a bit of a strange period in Flair's career. He'd technically retire two years later before popping back up in TNA for more barbarity alongside Foley. Before the SummerSlam bout, Ric had experienced his first 'Extreme Rules' action against Big Show on the 11 July '06 episode of ECW - that's another moment nobody saw coming.

Seeing Flair in this kind of environment was weird. He was known for epic blade jobs, but not barbed wire, tables and other vicious gimmicks. Ric was a technical marvel in his prime, and his legend felt at odds with Mick's brawling style.
