In WWF/WWE history, there are few names more synonymous with the idea of a Ladder Match than Jeff Hardy. Shawn Michaels is obviously up there, given his amazing matches against Razor Ramon from 1994 and 1995, but Hardy - along with the likes of brother Matt, Edge & Christian and The Dudley Boys - reinvented people's perceptions of the stunt-based spectacles.

Going back as far as October, 1999, Hardy and Edge were having stellar bouts involving ladders, and they would do so again at the Extreme Rules 2009 event. As the main event of the show, the pressure was on both men to deliver, especially considering the card had been loaded with Steel Cage battles, hardcore matches and even Samoan Strap contests.

The result was perhaps one of Edge's last great performances in the main event on a WWE Pay-Per-View, because the Canadian really pulled out all the stops here. Looking back, it's hard not to wince as the steel ladder collides with his body, but both he and Jeff really put their bodies through hell in order to entertain here. There were big bumps aplenty, in one of the last matches between the storied tandem.
