10 Tag Teams Where Both Wrestlers Were Marty Jannetty

Doubling down on the stuff that DOESN'T work, these classic WWE tag teams were better together...

The term 'Marty Jannetty' is applied when a tag team splits up and one wrestler does significantly better than the other. It has its roots in the breakup of The Rockers. Shawn Michaels went on to become one of the most celebrated performers of all time, while Marty Jannetty... well, just look him up.

There have been many examples of this phenomenon over the years. Jim Neidhart, Stevie Ray, Charlie Haas, Rick Steiner, the list goes on. You get the rare example of a team with zero Jannettys - Edge and Christian for instance - but there are far more cases of the complete opposite.

This list is all about tag teams who went their separate ways but just couldn't find success on their own. Some of them floundered so badly, they were forced to reunite with their partners in order to maintain their careers.

This isn't a comment on their abilities as a wrestler, far from it. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being a great tag team wrestler. However, I'd wager that none of them were thrilled that their singles careers didn't work out.

10. The Prime Time Players

Titus O'Neil and Darren Young were both contestants on the fifth season of the game show version of NXT. After a brief feud, they joined forces to take the main roster by storm. Well, that was the plan anyway...

The Prime Time Players had solid chemistry and their 'millions of dollars' catchphrase found an audience. WWE clearly thought that the real money was in Young and O'Neil as enemies rather than friends, so they were booked to break up in 2014.

What followed was one of the feuds of all time. No, that isn't a typo. O'Neil and Young's beef was so forgettable that, when they got back together a year later, most people didn't even realise they'd split.

This second run yielded a tag team title reign, but little else. They broke up again in 2016, but this storyline was abruptly ended when Young was released the following year.

Young has found some success on the indies under the name Fred Rosser, while O'Neil remains an ambassador for WWE. Still, nobody would be in a rush to call their singles runs anything other than bang average.
