10 Terrible Debuts AEW Quickly Fixed

9. Miro

Jungle Boy Christian Cage
AEW

Part of Miro's appeal as the current (as of writing) TNT Champion is that he's an absolute f*cking killer. Another is a sense of catharsis based on how lost he looked for so much of his run.

The former Rusev's false start was as much to do with AEW getting too cute for their own good when they sealed his signature. Miro was a gamer and a streamer, as was Kip Sabian. Plus, Sabian's planned wedding to Penelope Ford echoed one of the last things the Rusev persona was involved with in WWE, and there were worse nicknames than 'The Best Man'.

But it was all so...frivolous. Miro had experienced more than enough of that over the last several years, and if AEW were to represent an alternative, they had to make sure he wasn't swallowed up my more silliness. They got there just in time - an Arcade Anarchy brawl on Dynamite was so irresistibly entertaining that it tied up the loose ends from his early run whilst simultaneously bringing forward the overdue split between the former mates. He's not looked back since.
