10 Terrible Iterations Of Legendary Gimmick Matches

1. Blindfold Cage Match

Even worse than the electrified iteration of the cage match, was the Six Sides of Steel Blindfold match which actually took place on the very same pay-per-view! Man, talk about a rough night for those in attendance in Missouri.

The one positive I can say about this one is that at least the match’s name didn’t leave you in any doubt as to what to expect.

But with Blindfold matches being a tough enough sell at the best of times, did TNA really think that by adding a cage to the mix - a cage that neither participant would be able to fully utilise on account of their blindness - was going to rescue this contest?

Furthermore, this was part of the feud between former partners James Storm and Chris Harris. Surely a tag team disintegration angle is deserving of something better than a freakin' blindfold match?

Questions aside, what we do know for sure is that this match was downright absurd. It was a good two minutes before either man actually touched the other, and then once they finally got down to it their blindfolds wouldn’t stop falling off. Also, I feel like the referee took more punishment than either wrestler, given the amount of times he was mistaken for an actual competitor.

Credit to Storm, mind you, for actually having a go at climbing the cage blindfolded. Although, I’m not sure how advisable that strategy is...

Still, it can’t be more ill-advised than actually booking this match in the first place. I hate to be the guy to rip into TNA, but staging this contest was a particularly poor decision by just about anyone’s standards.

Never before and, mercifully, never again.
