10 Terrible Wrestling Gimmicks You Secretly Love

6. The Shockmaster

Look at that wee glittery face!

The Shockmaster is brought up any time someone discusses WCW's worst ideas, or the most calamitous debuts in wrestling history. Poor Fred Ottman "fell right on his fookin' arse" (Davey Boy Smith's words) during his intro on Clash Of The Champions XXIV; he tripped over a piece of wood whilst bursting through a prop wall.

The gimmick was ripe for the scrap heap after that. There was no going back. However, ol' Shocky should still get a lot of love from fans looking back. Put it this way: If WWE or AEW ran a cameo spot with some large lad clad in a dodgy cape and sparkly Stormtrooper helmet today, people would pop.

Stop rolling your eyes - they would! Shockmaster's disastrous debut is so entrenched in wrestling lore as something so awful it's must-see. Re-doing the trip spot in a major promotion today would work as a one off. Someone tell Cody Rhodes to get his uncle Fred a payday.
