10 Terrible WWE Creative Decisions (That Were Better Than You Think)

1. Steve Austin Turns Heel

Ask Steve Austin now, and he'll swiftly tell you that he should have never elected to shake the hand of Vince McMahon at WrestleMania X-Seven. Instead, the 'Rattlesnake' feels he should have booted his boss in the stomach, quickly giving him the Stone Cold Stunner and staying babyface. Of course, that wouldn't happen, and Austin would 'shake hands with the devil himself', turning heel in his home state of Texas. It felt like a huge, landmark moment, but it would become clear that the guy felt there was still a lot of gas left in his tank as the top babyface in the promotion. Nonetheless, Austin formed the 'Two Man Power Trip' with Triple H, and it's often forgotten than the pair were awesome together, right up until 'The Game' would suffer a nasty quadriceps-related injury during a tag match on Raw against Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho in May, 2001. It seems strange to ask the question now, but would Austin have succeeded as a heel, and been more comfortable playing one, had Triple H not went down with a serious injury? There was a lot of potential for the duo, and even more potential for Vince McMahon to become more heavily involved, as Austin played a direct contrast to the character he had played for so long previously. The man himself may disagree, but his heel turn did work, it just maybe didn't pan out as well as it could have in the long run.
