10 Terrible WWE Religious Gimmicks

1. God

Not only has the Lord of Lords wrestled a match in the WWE, but he has a terrible track record. Not only has he lost 100% of his PPV matches, but he also abandoned his tag-team partner when he needed him most. Bad form, God. In 2006, and in one of the most oft-recited 'worst angles of all time', Vince McMahon decided to go after God himself. He was feuding with Shawn Michaels at the time, who had found God and often referred to his "salvation" in interviews. HBK's new-found religion was genuine and not often referred to in angles, until now. In a bid to embarrass Michaels, Vinny Mac along with "the product of his sperm" Shane McMahon, challenged God and HBK to a tag-team match at Backlash. Cue vignettes of Vince smack-talking God in a church, spitting holy water around and generally being an ass. Why would a pastor let people film something like that in their church? When Backlash rolled around, and with everyone except Vince nice and uncomfortable with just about everything, God, the creator of all things, the big Dad of the Universe, 'showed up', in the form of a bright spotlight that slowly made its way to the ring. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMGWWpyFGFU Vince told God to lighten up and have a boogie. Then an early edit of Brodus Clay's "Somebody Call My Momma" played as Vince danced. Halfway through the match, the spotlight disappeared backstage, 'abandoning' Shawn, as McMahon took the mic and disingenuously pleaded for God to return. Wow. Vince McMahon is a maniac, an Old Testament-style lunatic with his own temple. He travels from town to town with his manufactured demigods Seenar, Rohk, Hoe-Gann, and Osstin. His world is one of sin and lust and violence, and if the pious step a foot into his kingdom, they cast long, dark shadows. No wonder 'righteousness' is second-hand for 'evil' in the world of WWE. Somebody pray for Vince McMahon, if you believe in that sort of thing.
