10 Terrible WWE Religious Gimmicks

4. Reverend D-Von

When the Dudleys were separated by the brand split in 2002, with Bubba staying on Raw and D-von heading to Smackdown, the two men took different paths. Bubba stayed more or less faithful to the backwoods table-loving gimmick that got him over, but D-Von underwent quite a radical change. He had spent many a year shouting his catchphrase 'Testify!!', which had migrated from their time in ECW as more hateful hectoring heels, and that became the foundation of his new gimmick, an angry African-American preacher. He would come to the ring wearing typical black suit and dog collar, and bellow at the crowd to 'testify' and drawing cheap heat by degrading the people for their sinful local customs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boqSq7oYzd8 Despite holding an upset pinball victory over HHH, after Y2J interference, the Reverend D-Von character was a repetitive, tedious bust, and D-Von re-united with his brother to much adulation later that year at Survivor Series. The only thing of note from D-Von's time as a man of the cloth was that his bodyguard, a musclebound deacon, was the first character in the WWE portrayed by a certain Dave Bautista. Whatever happened to him, anyway?
