10 Terrible WWE Religious Gimmicks

3. Mordecai

Throughout his professional wrestler career, Kevin Fertig has never strayed too far from the occult and religious. His first run with Memphis Championship Wrestling saw him battling as a character called Seven, attacking people who transgressed the seven deadly sins. He features in fans' more recent memory as the vampiric Kevin Thorn, a millennial Gangrel with a taste for eye-liner, waistcoats and generally being disregarded by fans. He wrestled as part of Nu-ECW's New Breed, before quietly disappearing from TV in 2007 and the company in 2009. Before he donned the fangs, however, Fertig was called up to Smackdown in April 2004 for a brief stint with a character called Mordecai. He was a striking figure with bleached white hair and beard, walking to the ring in flowing white robes, emblazoned with a theological symbol. Mordecai was a religious zealot who implied that he was the vengeful resurrected Christ figure from Revelations, sent to judge mankind, which is no small order for a wrestler to perform. He sat on God's right hand and often prayer to his 'father'. Creepy. https://youtu.be/NT5z3ER8U6s His made only 2 PPV appearances, Judgment Day & The Great American Bash 2004. He would approach the ring carrying a giant metal crucifix and proceeded to crush both Scotty 2 Hotty and Bob Holly. The character was interesting enough and Fertig was no slouch as a wrestler, but a mere three months are debuted, he was called back to WWE's developmental territory, rendering the character of Mordecai an utter flop. As the reincarnation of Christ he proved the rule of diminishing returns.
